Journal Prompt for August 18, 2025.

I’ve been providing journal prompts 5 days a week for guests at the Modern Elder Academy in Baja, Mexico all summer. I was asked recently if I might post some of them here. I may not post a prompt daily like I do in Baja, but I thought I’d give it a try (shout out to the “Owls” cohort for making this suggestion). So here’s today’s prompt:

According to psychologist Rick Hanson, the brain has a "negativity bias" - it readily learns from negative experiences but needs help to fully absorb positive ones. By deliberately savoring good experiences, we can gradually reshape our brain's default patterns toward greater well-being and resilience.

Hanson emphasizes savoring small, ordinary good things - a warm cup of coffee, a friend's smile, completing a task, or moments of calm. Today, see if you can “savor the good” by noticing and journaling about the small moments of goodness you experience.
